Then, move outside to the back lawn to safely** view the eclipse using eclipse glasses provided by the Space Science Institute with funding from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.

Saturday, October 14
Noon-1:30 pm

Open to all ages. Light refreshments will be provided.

Please RSVP.

Eclipse sighting over the Philadelpha area begins at 12:05 pm, with max viewing (38%) at 1:21 pm, and ends at 2:37 pm.

*An annular solar eclipse happens when the moon appears relatively small in the sky so does not fully cover the disk of the sun, leaving a thin outer ring often called a “ring of fire.”
**The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed, partially eclipsed, or annularly eclipsed Sun is through special-purpose solar filters, such as “eclipse glasses,” which will be provided by the library at this event, or handheld solar viewers. Ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the Sun; they transmit far more sunlight than is safe for our eyes.
