Jane Austen’s Birthday Celebration with Alisa Dupuy, Tues., Nov. 18, 6:30 pm

2025 marks the 250th birthday of Jane Austen!

To celebrate, come and “meet” Eliza Blackwell Dupree, an American friend of Jane’s. From Eliza, we will learn all about Jane’s life, her family, her loves, and her timeless works of literature. Eliza will talk about the era surrounding Austen, and how it is reflected in her writings, as well as the fashion of the times.

Our guest will show the evolution of fashion from the French Revolution to the Napoleonic era, and discuss how the politics influenced the fashions. Ms. Dupree will display common foundation garments, as well as provide reproduction pieces that participants may try on!   

Finally, we will all celebrate the life Jane Austen while sharing some of our favorites of her literary contributions over birthday cake.

Historical reenactor Alisa Dupuy will be returning to HVL for this exciting presentation.
