February 2019 Calendar of Events

Vive le France in February…a month of events with a French Flair! 
The February 2019 Calendar of Events includes events for the body, mind, and spirit.
From meditation at the Friends Meeting on February 7 to yoga and Tai Chi classes on Wednesdays and Thursdays. For Teens, we have book club, gaming, the Advisory Board, and Middle School STEAMers on February 15. Children’s program includes Rhythm Babies, Storytimes, LEGO club, Play-Doh playtime and Bounce & Rhyme Babytime on February 28.
Love to talk about books? You are invited to the Library’s Adult Book Club on February 11 to discuss Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. The Friends Book Club meets on February 21 and they will be discussing The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See.
2019-Eiffel-Tower-Feb-10Join us on Sunday, February 10 at 2 pm for a FREE lecture on Gustave Eiffel and His Tower with Joanne Beck.The story of the life and times of Gustave Eiffel’s Tower, which made its debut at the Paris World’s Fair in 1889, is filled with the history of the times.   Learn more and register.

The Fans of French Cinema group returns in February with four fabulous films in French (with English subtitles):

  • F2019-French-Filmsebruary 7, 4 pm Jules et Jim (1962) French New Wave romantic drama film set around the time of WW1.  It describes a love triangle involving French Bohemian Jim, his Austrian friend, Jules and Jules’ girlfriend (Jeanne Moreau). 1 hr 45 min
  • February 14, 4 pm  Amélie (2001) Amélie Audrey Tautou) is an innocent and naive girl in Paris with her own sense of justice. She decides to help those around her and, along the way, discovers love.  Extraordinary cinematography and a dazzling array of Parisian settings.  2 hr 2 min
  • February 21, 4 pm  Back to Burgundy (2017) After a 10 year absence, Jean returns to his hometown when his father falls ill. Reuniting with his sister Juliette and his brother Jérémie, they have to re-build their relationship and trust as a family again.  A lovely family. Story with beautiful scenery of the French Wine Country (1hr 53 min)
  • February 28, 4pm  Être et Avoir (To Be and To Have – 2002) A documentary portrait of a one-room school in rural France, where the students (ranging in age from 4 to 11) are educated by a single dedicated teacher.(1hr 44 min)
