November’s Book Worm Book Club

At November’s Book Worm Book Club, we discussed The Story of Diva and Flea by Mo Willems and Tony DiTerlizzi. I love discussing books with this high spirited group of 1st and 2nd graders. They offer such interesting answers. In the story, Diva is afraid of feet and Flea is afraid of brooms. I asked the group if there is anything they are afraid of that keeps them from trying something new. One was afraid of roller coasters, someone else bees, another shared her fear of the dark. Two were afraid of their brothers and one young lady told me she was afraid of being alone. I found out that two of the children had been friends for exactly 43 days. I asked how they knew this and they let me know that their teacher counts the number of school days, and they met on the first day of school. We talked about whether or not the story had anything to do with trust, and they shared with me what it means to trust. It is so humbling and heart warming to know that these children trust me.
